The Chi-car

This time last week I was picking up my new car from the garage… It was about time that I replaced my little Micra. Micras are not designed for long motorway journeys and it had started to rattle in one too many places, let alone the fact that it wasn’t that comfy for long journeys…

So after we were told that my last service/MOT was going to be around a grand, we decided it was time to dump the Micra and get something more decent for me. At the end of the day, driving 70 miles a day is a very important part of my daily routine and the noisy, rattly journeys were starting to get on my nerves.

We looked into several cars. The one we thought had the winning hand was the nation favourite: Ford Focus. However, I don’t know what happened, but after being almost sure that it was the one, we were kind of put off by it and started looking elsewhere.

I must admit that the brand new Nissan Juke caught my eye. Its sleek and modern design was very attractive to me, however after measuring it against a Micra, we realised that it wasn’t that much bigger, so decided against it (plus, being so new they don’t have many second hand ones at decent prices – and price was a key factor for us)

Other cars that I liked but I knew I wasn’t going to get (price-wise) were the Mercedes A150 and the Mazda 3.

So what did we go for in the end?

The Toyota Auris (1.6 engine, 5 doors, black). It drives beautifully, the build quality is much better than the Focus’, it’s big without being unmanageable, and it feels simply perfect! And it’s Japanese. Everybody knows that Japanese cars are the best. Both Jon and myself are so happy with it! The only little issue that I’ve got with it is the fact that it is considerably bigger than the Micra and it’s going to take me a little while to get used to that, especially when parking. But, it all will come with time!

Mi coche!

Great analysis and better decision :)

It’s a great little car – the perfect size upgrade! It’s just big enough to hold itself with proper composure without throwing the occupants around, without going into saloon territory! Noise insulation is excellent for a car of the size and form factor. Barely a scratch on it, I will positively look forward to helping you wax it!

Very pleased with our decision, and it plays MP3′s too! =D

Congrats on your new car! Looks great.

German cars are better than Japanese ones though…! ;-P
