Three countries in a week

France, England and Ireland in a week. The common factor in all three of them? Snow! Lots of it!

We had a great but freezing weekind in Paris and were amazed when we woke up to a snow-white city on Monday morning. Our surprise would be tenfold when we got back to the UK on Monday night and almost got stranded in King’s Cross due to the amount of snow that had fallen! Apparently all train services in the south of England were cancelled or were heavily disrupted (and the National Rail Enquires “recommended” us NOT TO TRAVEL… Ermm, excuse me? We’re travelling already and want to get home!!!) Good thing that Jon parents were kind enough to go and pick us up from Heathrow T4 (but only after an hour’s journey on the tube to get there!)

Snow in Paris!

The first thing we did when we got home was to build the ugliest snowman ever (well, actually, that was the second thing. The first one was rescueing my car from under a pile of snow!). I was very jealous of our neighbour’s snowman, as it was so fat and round, and even had all the accessories! But you can’t really compare them as ours was done in less than 20 minutes and using the oven gloves because I had left my gloves in the back seat of Dave’s car! Still, I was quite proud of my first snowman ever :)

Ugly Snowman

Yesterday I was in Dublin, watching the snow fall and settle, hoping that my flight wasn’t delayed due to the weather conditions. Imagine my surprise when I hear that the airline (Aer Lingus) has decided to CANCEL all flights! I wasn’t amused. Not a bit. We had to reschedule the flight to 06.40 am this morning and didn’t get back to the UK until 10.00 am.

What annoys me the most is that the weather conditions in Dublin these past two days haven’t been THAT bad. Yes, it snowed. Yes, it settled. But it wasn’t more than 2 or 3 inches thick! I could understand when earlier in the week all transport was affected in the UK because we had 10 inches of snow! 10 inches yes, 2 inches no. It was the biggest blizzard to hit Southern England in the last 18 years. I can understand that, but the little snow that fell in Dublin couldn’t hardly be considered a blizzard!

Still I am happy to have lived the worst weather conditions in decades in three different countries AND having done my first snowman!
